Bactrosaurus
BAK-troh-SORE-us /ˌbæktroʊˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
club lizard (or "staff lizard")
- baktron · Greek · club, staff, cane
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name comes from the Greek "baktron" (staff or club) and "sauros" (lizard). Gilmore chose it because the neural spines on the animal's vertebrae are rod-like, resembling clubs or staffs, rather than because of the skull or body shape.
