bag-ah-RAH-tahn /ˌbægəˈrɑːtɑːn/
Accepted genus
small predator
- baga · Mongolian · small
- raatan · Mongolian · predator
Bagaraatan combines two Mongolian words meaning "small" and "predator", so it is the "small predator". It was named for a fairly small meat-eating theropod from the Nemegt Formation of Mongolia. The type species, B. ostromi, honours the American paleontologist John Ostrom.
