Bambiraptor
BAM-bee-RAP-tor /ˌbæmbiˈræptər/
Accepted genus
Bambi thief (robber)
- Bambi · Italian (via the Disney film character) · baby deer; used here for a small, young animal
- raptor · Latin · robber, plunderer, thief
Bambiraptor combines "Bambi", the Disney fawn character, with the Latin "raptor", meaning robber or plunderer. The name was chosen because the first specimen was a small, young individual, a juvenile or subadult. The type species is Bambiraptor feinbergorum, named for the Feinberg family, who supported the work.
