Nomen dubium
titan lizard
- Titan · Greek · Titan, a giant deity of Greek myth
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Greek "Titan", one of the giant gods of Greek mythology, with "sauros", meaning lizard. Lydekker chose it to convey the animal's enormous size. The group Titanosauria, which includes many large sauropods, is named after this genus.

A sauropod. The type species, T. indicus, is based on fragmentary remains (including a few caudal vertebrae and a femur), so the genus is generally treated as a nomen dubium. Many other species were once assigned to it from South America, Europe and elsewhere, which made it a "wastebasket" genus. Most have since been moved to other genera.
