Tralkasaurus
TRAL-kah-SORE-us /ˌtrælkəˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
thunder lizard
- tralka · Mapuche (Mapudungun) · thunder
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The first part of the name comes from the Mapuche (Mapudungun) word for thunder, a nod to the Indigenous people of the region where the fossil was found. It is joined to the Greek word for lizard. The name therefore means "thunder lizard". The only named species is Tralkasaurus cuyi, an abelisaurid theropod from Patagonia.
