Sierraceratops

Accepted genus
Sierra (mountain range) horned face
- Sierra · Spanish · mountain range (after Sierra County, New Mexico)
- keras · Greek · horn
- ops · Greek · face
The name combines "Sierra", for Sierra County in New Mexico where the fossil was found (and ultimately the Spanish word for a mountain range), with the Greek roots for "horned face". It was chosen to mark the place of discovery and to show that this animal was a horned ceratopsid. The species name, turneri, honors Ted Turner, on whose land the fossil was found.
