Spiclypeus
SPY-klih-PEE-us /ˌspaɪklɪˈpiːəs/
Accepted genus
spiked shield
- spica · Latin · spike, point
- clypeus · Latin · shield
The name combines Latin words for "spike" and "shield", referring to the spiky frill of this horned dinosaur. Its brow horns curve sideways and down. The team that described it nicknamed it "Mister Spock" because the horns look like Spock's eyebrows. The type species, S. shipporum, honours the Shipp family, who owned the land where it was found.
