Accepted genus
Chinese horned face
- Sino · Latin (from Greek Sinai) · China, Chinese
- keras · Greek · horn
- ops · Greek · face
The name combines "Sino-" (China), the Greek "keras" (horn) and "ops" (face), meaning "Chinese horned face". It was chosen because Sinoceratops was a horned, frilled ceratopsid and was the first well-known ceratopsid found in China. It is the first large ceratopsid known from Asia outside the North American lineage.
