Enigmosaurus
e-NIG-moh-SORE-us /eˌnɪɡməˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
enigmatic lizard
- enigma · Greek · riddle, puzzle (enigmatic)
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Greek "ainigma" (riddle, enigma) with "sauros" (lizard), giving "enigmatic lizard". It was chosen because the animal's unusual, oddly shaped pelvis was puzzling when first found. The type species, Enigmosaurus mongoliensis, comes from Mongolia.

A therizinosaur (a group of big-clawed, probably plant-eating theropods). It is known mostly from a pelvis and some other bones. Some researchers suspect it may be the same animal as Erlikosaurus, which comes from similar rocks, but this is unresolved.
