Eobrontosaurus
ee-oh-BRON-toh-SORE-us /ˌiːoʊˌbrɒntəˈsɔːrəs/
Synonym of Brontosaurus
dawn thunder lizard
- eos (eo-) · Greek · dawn
- bronte · Greek · thunder
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines Greek roots for "dawn", "thunder" and "lizard", so it means "dawn thunder lizard". Bakker chose it because he thought the animal was an earlier (older) relative of Brontosaurus. The species was first described as Apatosaurus yahnahpin and was moved to its own genus in 1998.

Usually treated as a junior synonym of Brontosaurus. Tschopp et al. (2015) placed its type species in that genus as Brontosaurus yahnahpin. Some authors have kept it in Apatosaurus or as a separate genus. The type species was first named Apatosaurus yahnahpin by Filla & Redman in 1994.
