Accepted genus
dawn three-horned face
- eo · Greek · dawn, early
- tri · Greek · three
- keras · Greek · horn
- ops · Greek · face
The name combines the Greek word for "dawn" or "early" with Triceratops, the well-known three-horned ceratopsid. It was chosen because this animal was an early, geologically older relative of Triceratops. Triceratops itself means "three-horned face".
