Synonym of Triceratops

solid crest

  • sterrhos · Greek · solid, firm
  • lophos · Greek · crest

The name combines Greek words meaning "solid" or "firm" and "crest". It probably refers to the solid, bony frill and horn structure of the skull. Marsh named it for a horned dinosaur skull that he thought differed from Triceratops.
