Albalophosaurus
al-bah-LOH-foh-SORE-us /ˌælbəˌloʊfoʊˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
white crest lizard
- alba · Latin · white
- lophos · Greek · crest
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines Latin "alba" (white), Greek "lophos" (crest) and Greek "sauros" (lizard), giving roughly "white crest lizard". The "white" element is, as far as I recall, a reference to the Japanese region where it was found (the Hakusan area, "white mountain"). I am less sure of the exact reason for "crest". The type species is Albalophosaurus yamaguchiorum.
