Lophorhothon
LOH-foh-ROH-thon /ˌloʊfoʊˈroʊθɒn/
Accepted genus
crested nose
- lophos · Greek · crest
- rhothon · Greek · nose
The name combines the Greek words for "crest" and "nose". Wann Langston Jr. chose it because the skull appeared to show a raised, crest-like swelling on the nasal region. The type species is Lophorhothon atopus; "atopus" means "out of place", which refers to this hadrosaur-like animal turning up in a marine deposit.

A basal hadrosauroid (early duck-billed dinosaur) known from fragmentary remains. It is one of the more complete dinosaurs from the eastern United States. The exact age and the "crest" interpretation are uncertain, and the nasal crest may not be a real crest.
