Yi
YEE /jiː/
Accepted genus
wing
- Yi · Mandarin Chinese · wing
Yi is taken from the Mandarin Chinese word for "wing". It was chosen because this small scansoriopterygid had a bat-like wing, with a long rod-like bone extending from the wrist that probably supported a membrane. The type species, Yi qi, adds "qi", meaning "strange", so the full name means "strange wing".
