Ischioceratops
ISH-ee-oh-SERR-ah-tops /ˌɪʃiːoʊˈsɛrətɒps/
Accepted genus
ischium horned face
- Ischio- · New Latin (from Greek ischion) · ischium, the hip bone
- cerat- · Greek · horn
- -ops · Greek · face
The name combines "ischium" (one of the hip bones), Greek "keras" (horn) and "ops" (face), following the usual pattern for ceratopsian names. The ischium part refers to the unusual, distinctively shaped ischium of the type specimen, which sets this animal apart from other small ceratopsians. The only named species is Ischioceratops zhuchengensis, after Zhucheng in Shandong, China.
