Shidaisaurus
shee-DY-sor-us /ʃiˌdaɪˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
Shida(i) lizard
- Shida(i) · Chinese · place or term from the Chinese name of the discovery area (exact reference not confirmed)
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The second half of the name is the Greek "sauros", meaning lizard, as in most dinosaur names. The first half is taken from Chinese and relates to the locality where the fossil was found in Yunnan. I am not certain of the exact Chinese reference. The type species is Shidaisaurus jinae.
