Borealosaurus
BOR-ee-AL-oh-SORE-us /ˌbɔːriˌæləˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
northern lizard
- Borealis (Latin, from Greek Boreas) · Latin/Greek · northern
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines a root meaning "northern" (from Latin borealis, ultimately from the Greek north wind Boreas) with the Greek "sauros", lizard. It refers to the fact that this titanosaurian sauropod was found in northern China, and was among the northernmost members of its group known from Asia at the time it was named. The only named species is Borealosaurus wimani, honouring the Swedish palaeontologist Carl Wiman.
