  • duo · Latin · two
  • onyx (onychus) · Greek · claw

The name combines the Latin "duo" (two) with the Greek "onyx" (claw). It refers to the fact that the hand has only two functional fingers. Most other therizinosaurs, the group it belongs to, had three-fingered hands. The type species is Duonychus tsogtbaatari.

Valid genus of therizinosaur (a group of herbivorous theropods) known from a two-fingered hand. The type species name honors the Mongolian paleontologist Khishigjav Tsogtbaatar. I am less sure of the authorship, year, exact age and locality, so those details should be checked against the original description.
