Achelous lizard
- Achelous · Greek · Greek river god who lost a horn in a fight with Heracles
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name honours Achelous, a Greek river god who, in myth, lost a horn when he fought Heracles (Hercules). It was chosen because this ceratopsian had rough bony bosses instead of true horns above the eyes and on the nose. The suffix means "lizard".
