Abditosaurus
ab-DIT-oh-SORE-us /æbˌdɪtəˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
hidden lizard
- abditus · Latin · hidden, concealed, forgotten
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Latin "abditus" (hidden) with the Greek "sauros" (lizard), so it means "hidden lizard". It refers to this large titanosaur having been an unknown, hidden member of the dinosaur fauna of the Late Cretaceous European island landscape until its fossils were studied.
