- Tim · English (personal name) · Tim Rich and Tim Flannery
- mimus · Latin/Greek · mimic
Timimus is a "Tim mimic" name. The first part honours Tim Rich (son of the palaeontologists who found the fossils) and Tim Flannery, who helped with the work. The second part comes from the Greek/Latin word for "mimic", alluding to the animal's resemblance to the ornithomimids, or "bird mimic" dinosaurs.
