Onychosaurus
oh-NIK-oh-SORE-us /ˌoʊnɪkəˈsɔːrəs/
claw lizard
- onyx (onych-) · Greek · claw, nail
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Greek "onyx" (claw or nail) with "sauros" (lizard), so it means "claw lizard". It was presumably chosen for the claw-like or nail-like bones of the original fossil material.

I am not fully sure of the details. The name is associated with Franz Nopcsa's work on Late Cretaceous armored dinosaurs from central Europe, and the material is generally regarded as doubtful or as belonging to another genus. I have left out its exact taxonomic status, location and stages because I can't verify them.
