Notatesseraeraptor
no-tah-tess-er-EE-rap-tor /noʊˌtɑtɛsərˈiːræptər/
Accepted genus
marked tessera robber
- nota · Latin · mark
- tesserae · Latin · tessera (a small square tile, as in a mosaic)
- raptor · Latin · robber, plunderer
The name combines Latin roots meaning "mark", "tessera" (a small square mosaic tile) and "robber", so roughly "marked-tessera robber". It was given to a small Late Triassic theropod from Switzerland. I am not certain of the exact feature the "tessera" part refers to, so I have not stated it.
