Pneumatoraptor
NOO-mat-oh-RAP-tor /ˌnuːmætəˈræptɔːr/
Accepted genus
air (pneumatic) robber
- pneuma · Greek · air, breath (referring to pneumatic, air-filled bone features)
- raptor · Latin · robber, plunderer
The name combines the Greek "pneuma" (air or breath) with the Latin "raptor" (robber or plunderer). It alludes to the pneumatic (air-filled) character of the bone in the type specimen, a partial shoulder girdle, together with the animal's predatory, raptorial theropod nature. The only named species, P. fodori, honors Hungarian László Fodor.

A small theropod known from very fragmentary remains (mainly a partial scapulocoracoid). It was originally interpreted as a paravian, possibly related to basal paravians or dromaeosaurid-line theropods; its exact relationships are uncertain. The precise anatomical feature behind the "pneumatic" part of the name is stated from memory and should be checked against the original description.
