- keras · Greek · horn
- ops · Greek · face
The name combines Medusa, the Gorgon of Greek myth with a head of snakes, with the Greek roots for "horned face". It refers to the long, curved hornlike projections (epiparietals) along the edge of the neck frill, which resemble Medusa's writhing snake hair. The type species is Medusaceratops lokii, named for the Norse trickster god Loki.
