koh-REE-an-oh-SORE-us /koʊˌriːənəˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
Korea lizard
- Korean(o) · English/Latinised · Korea, Korean
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines "Korea" with the Greek "sauros" (lizard), meaning "Korean lizard". It was chosen because the fossils come from South Korea, and the animal was among the first non-avian dinosaur skeletons of its kind described from the country. The type species is Koreanosaurus boseongensis, named after Boseong County where it was found.
