Synonym of Jeholornis
elegant bird
- kompsos · Greek · elegant, refined
- ornis · Greek · bird
The name combines the Greek words "kompsos" (elegant or refined) and "ornis" (bird). It was given to a long-tailed Early Cretaceous bird from China. Later work treated the fossil as belonging to the earlier-named Jeholornis.

Kompsornis is generally regarded as a junior synonym of Jeholornis, a long-tailed early bird. Birds are avian dinosaurs, but this is not a non-avian dinosaur. I am less sure of the authorship, so I left it blank. The location is given from memory.
