Eucnemesaurus
yoo-KNEE-meh-SORE-us /juˌniːməˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
well-greaved lizard
- eu · Greek · good, well
- knemis · Greek · greave (armour for the shin or lower leg)
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Greek words for "well", "greave" (a piece of armour protecting the shin) and "lizard", giving roughly "well-greaved lizard". The "greave" part refers to the lower leg. It was given to an early long-necked dinosaur relative (a sauropodomorph) known from fossils in South Africa.

A basal sauropodomorph (not a true sauropod). The type species is E. fortis; a second species, E. entaxonis, was named by McPhee et al. in 2015. Exact geologic stage is not given here because I am not certain of it.
