The name combines the Greek "kraspedon" (edge or border) with "odous" (tooth). It refers to the marginal ridges or edging on the teeth, which are the only remains known. The type species, C. lonzeensis, is named after Lonzée in Belgium, where the teeth were found.

Known only from isolated teeth. It was originally regarded as an iguanodontian-like ornithopod, but the material is not distinctive enough for a firm identification. It is generally treated as a doubtful name (nomen dubium) among ornithischians.
