Anchiceratops
AN-kee-SERR-ah-tops /ˌænkiˈsɛrətɒps/
Accepted genus
near horned face
- anchi · Greek · near, close
- keras · Greek · horn
- ops · Greek · face
The name combines Greek roots meaning "near", "horn" and "face", giving "near horned face". Barnum Brown chose it because he saw the animal as closely related to, and similar in form to, earlier horned dinosaurs such as Triceratops and Monoclonius.
