Stenopelix
STEN-oh-PEE-liks /ˌstɛnoʊˈpiːlɪks/
Accepted genus
narrow pelvis
- stenos · Greek · narrow
- pelyx · Greek · pelvis, basin
The name combines the Greek "stenos" (narrow) with "pelyx" (pelvis, or basin/bowl). It refers to the narrow shape of the pelvis in the type specimen, which is one of the best-preserved parts of the skeleton. The only named species is Stenopelix valdensis, from the Wealden-type deposits of northern Germany.
