Tameryraptor
tah-MEER-ee-RAP-tor /tɑˌmɪriˈræptər/
Accepted genus
raptor of Egypt (the "beloved land")
- Tamery · Ancient Egyptian · Egypt, the 'beloved land'
- raptor · Latin · plunderer, robber
The name combines "Tamery", an ancient Egyptian name for Egypt often translated as "beloved land", with the Latin "raptor" meaning "plunderer" or "robber". It means "raptor of Egypt", after the country where the fossils were found. The type species, T. markgrafi, honours Richard Markgraf, the fossil collector who found early Bahariya Oasis specimens for Ernst Stromer.
