Limenavis
LIM-en-AY-vis /ˌlɪmənˈeɪvɪs/
Accepted genus
boundary bird (or threshold bird)
- limen · Latin · threshold, boundary
- avis · Latin · bird
The name combines the Latin "limen" (threshold or boundary) with "avis" (bird), so it means roughly "boundary bird". I believe the "limen" part refers to the Limay River region of northern Patagonia, but I am not certain of the authors' exact reasoning. The only named species is Limenavis patagonica, an early flying (carinate) bird known from a partial wing.

Limenavis is an early ornithuran bird, so it counts as an avian dinosaur. It is known from very incomplete remains, mainly a partial forelimb. The pronunciation, formation and stage details are uncertain, so I have left out the stage fields.
