Mirusavis
meer-us-AY-vis /ˌmɪərəsˈeɪvɪs/
Accepted genus
wonderful bird
- mirus · Latin · wonderful, remarkable
- avis · Latin · bird
The name combines the Latin words "mirus" (wonderful or remarkable) and "avis" (bird), so it means "wonderful bird". I'm confident of the roots. I haven't recorded the author's stated reason for choosing the name.
Mirusavis is a fossil bird, a small enantiornithine from the Early Cretaceous. Birds are avian dinosaurs. I left out the author, year, location and pronunciation because I'm not sure of them.
