Llukalkan
yoo-kal-KAN /juːkælˈkæn/
Accepted genus
one who scares
- llukalkan · Mapudungun (Mapuche) · one who scares / frightens
The name comes from Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people of Patagonia, and means roughly "one who scares". It was chosen to reflect the animal as a fearsome predator, using a local Indigenous word for the Argentine region where it was found. The only known species is Llukalkan aliocranianus.
