Accepted genus

huge things / giants

  • ingentia · Latin · huge things, giants (neuter plural of ingens, 'huge')

Ingentia comes from the Latin word "ingentia", meaning "huge things" or "giants". It was chosen because this early sauropodomorph was very large for a Triassic dinosaur. It is the biggest known dinosaur from its time and region. The type species is Ingentia prima, with "prima" meaning "first", for being among the first giant dinosaurs.

A large, early-branching sauropodomorph (a lessemsaurid-type relative of the sauropod lineage). It is a valid genus. Its bone structure suggests it grew in a fast but seasonal way, unlike later sauropods.
