Lepidus

LEP-ih-dus /ˈlɛpɪdəs/

Accepted genus

charming, pleasant, graceful

  • lepidus · Latin · pleasant, charming, graceful

The name comes from the Latin word "lepidus", meaning "pleasant" or "charming". It was given to a small, early theropod (a coelophysoid) known from Late Triassic rocks of Texas. The type species is Lepidus praecisio. I'm not certain of the authors' exact reasoning for choosing the word.

A valid genus of coelophysoid theropod dinosaur. Pronunciation and some details are given from memory. Do not confuse it with the Latin personal name Lepidus or with unrelated non-dinosaur taxa that use "lepidus" as a species epithet.
