Holbotia
hol-BOH-tee-uh /hɒlˈboʊtiə/
Accepted genus
"(From) Holbot"
- Holbot · Mongolian (place name) · the Holbot locality in Mongolia
- -ia · Latin · Latin suffix for a place or association
The name appears to refer to the Holbot locality in Mongolia, where the fossil was found, with a Latinised "-ia" ending. The type species is Holbotia ponomarenkoi. I'm not certain of the exact derivation of "Holbot", so treat this as the likely explanation and not a confirmed one.

Holbotia is an enantiornithine bird, a member of the extinct group of early birds. Birds are technically avian dinosaurs, but it is not a non-avian dinosaur in the popular sense. The year, authorship and locality come from my recall and should be checked against the original description.
