- de Lapparent · French (surname) · after Albert-Félix de Lapparent
- -ia · Latin · noun-forming suffix
Delapparentia honours the French paleontologist and priest Albert-Félix de Lapparent, who studied dinosaurs and described fossils from Spain, among other places. The Latin-style ending "-ia" turns his surname into a genus name. The fossils were found near Galve in Teruel province, Spain, and were first assigned to Iguanodon before being given their own genus.
