Daurlong combines "Daur", a reference to the Daur people and the Dauria region of Inner Mongolia where the fossil was found, with the Chinese word "long", meaning dragon. It therefore means roughly "Daur dragon" and marks the place of discovery. The type species is Daurlong wangi.
