Daemonosaurus
DEE-mon-oh-SORE-us /ˌdiːmɒnəˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
evil spirit lizard
- daimon · Greek · evil spirit
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Greek "daimon", meaning evil spirit, with "sauros", meaning lizard, giving "evil spirit lizard". It was named from a skull and partial skeleton found at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, and the spooky name fits that locality. The only species, D. chauliodus, has a name meaning "buck-toothed" because of its protruding upper front teeth.
