Rubeosaurus
ROO-bee-oh-SORE-us /ˌruːbiːoʊˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
red lizard
- rubeus · Latin · red
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines the Latin word for "red" with the Greek word for "lizard", so it means "red lizard". The genus was erected for the species originally described as Styracosaurus ovatus, a horned ceratopsian from Montana. I'm not certain of the exact reason the authors chose "red", so I haven't stated one.
