The name combines "Rahioli", the ancient name of the village now called Raiholi in Gujarat, India, with the Greek word for lizard. Raiholi is near the site where the fossils were found, so the name means "lizard from Rahioli". The only species is R. gujaratensis, named for the state of Gujarat.
