Liaoningvenator
lee-OW-ning-veh-NAY-tor /liˌaʊnɪŋvɛˈneɪtər/
Accepted genus
Liaoning hunter
- Liaoning · Chinese (place name) · Liaoning Province, China
- venator · Latin · hunter
The name combines Liaoning, the province in northeastern China where the fossil was found, with the Latin word for "hunter". It means "Liaoning hunter" and marks this small, feathered, predatory troodontid as a hunter from the Liaoning fossil beds. The only species, L. curriei, honours the paleontologist Philip Currie.
