Dinheirosaurus
din-YAIR-oh-SORE-us /dɪnˌjɛroʊˈsɔːrəs/
Accepted genus
Porto Dinheiro lizard
- Dinheiro · Portuguese (place name) · Porto Dinheiro, the locality in Portugal where the fossils were found (dinheiro literally means 'money')
- sauros · Greek · lizard
The name combines Porto Dinheiro, the coastal locality near Lourinhã in Portugal where the fossils were found, with the Greek "sauros" (lizard). So it means "Porto Dinheiro lizard". Although "dinheiro" is Portuguese for "money", it refers here to the place name and not to money.
