Synonym of Nedoceratops

two-horned

  • di- · Greek · two
  • keras / keratos · Greek · horn
  • -us · Latinised ending · noun ending

Diceratus means "two-horned" and was coined as a replacement name for Diceratops, which was already used for an insect. The name refers to the two large brow horns of the ceratopsid skull it was based on. It was published in 2008, but Nedoceratops had already been published in 2007 as another replacement name for the same animal, so Diceratus is a junior synonym.

Junior objective synonym of Nedoceratops. Both Diceratus and Nedoceratops replace Diceratops Lull, 1905, which was preoccupied. Some researchers regard Nedoceratops as a possible synonym of Triceratops. The pronunciation is not given because I am not sure of a standard one.
