Accepted genus
Bissekty shield
- Bissekty · Place name (Bissekty Formation, Uzbekist · the Bissekty Formation, where the fossils were found
- pelta · Greek · small shield
The name combines "Bissekty", the Bissekty Formation in Uzbekistan where the fossils were found, with the Greek "pelta", a small shield. It means "Bissekty shield", a reference to the armoured ankylosaur's body armour and to the rock unit it came from. The type species, B. archibaldi, honours the palaeontologist J. David Archibald.

An armoured ankylosaurian dinosaur known mainly from skull material. The species was first described by Averianov in 2002 as Amtosaurus archibaldi and was moved into its own genus in 2004. I am less sure of the exact publication year and of the finer details of its classification within Ankylosauria.
