Crichtonpelta
KRITE-on-PEL-tah /ˌkraɪtɒnˈpɛltə/
Accepted genus
Crichton's shield
- Crichton · English (surname) · Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park
- pelta · Greek · small shield
The name honours the novelist Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, combined with the Greek "pelte" (small shield), a common ending for armoured ankylosaurs. It was created as a replacement for the earlier name Crichtonsaurus, which had been given to the same animal's species (benxiensis) and which was found not to apply to it.

- Liaoning Province, China
An ankylosaurid (armoured dinosaur). The type species is Crichtonpelta benxiensis, originally described as Crichtonsaurus benxiensis. The original genus Crichtonsaurus (type species C. bohlini) is regarded as a doubtful name. I am not certain of the exact author and year for Crichtonpelta, or of its precise stage, so these are left blank.
