Yuanyanglong

yoo-en-YANG-long /juɛnˌjæŋˈlɒŋ/

Accepted genus

mandarin duck dragon

  • yuanyang · Chinese (Mandarin) · mandarin duck, a traditional Chinese symbol of paired, devoted mates
  • long · Chinese (Mandarin) · dragon

The name combines the Mandarin word for the mandarin duck (yuanyang), a Chinese symbol of devoted pairs, with "long", meaning dragon. It is, as far as I recall, a reference to two specimens found together. I am not confident of that detail, nor of the other facts about this genus.

I recognise this as a published Chinese dinosaur genus (type species Yuanyanglong bainian), but I am not certain of its author, year, age, locality or classification. I have left those fields blank rather than guess. Please check a primary source.
